Laurie Horswood
Most people will now know the very sad news that Laurie Horswood passed away
on Boxing Day after being taken ill over Christmas.
Laurie was an extremely popular member of the club whose warm and polite manner failed to conceal his dry and waspish sense of humour. He was an excellent sportsman in his youth playing Rugby and opening the bowling for the Metropolitan Police Cricket Club who awarded him colours. More latterly, he was an avid supporter of Watford FC and bowled for Harefield for the last 15 years, maintaining his consistent performance despite a deterioration in his eyesight.
He and Audrey won the Harefield BC Round Robin competition in 2000. He was also the inspiration for the adoption of the club anthem “On Ilkely Moor bah T’aht” on last years Folkstone Tour. The familiar sight of Laurie with flat cap and walking stick striding across the green will be much missed as will his convivial company. Our sympathy and thoughts are with Audrey and family at this sad time.
The funeral is at St Mary’s Church, Harefield on Wednesday 11th January
2012 at 1.30pm, followed by the internment at Breakspear and then Harefield
Cricket Club. Audrey would like as many members as possible to join her for
the services and at the Cricket Club to help her say farewell.
